Application Process

THE ONLINE APPLICATION FOR INTERNSHIP IN COMMUNICATION 1 (04:192:369)

Step 1: Complete these prerequisites BEFORE applying for Internship:

  • Become a Communication Major
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
  • Communication Theory (04:192:200)

Step 2: Find an internship and receive an offer.

  • Research and contact a specific company/organization where you would like to intern.
  • Look at the postings in the Student Services office of the SC&I building.
  • Check the Internship listings located at Career Services.
  • Check the Communication Majors listserv via your Rutgers email account.
  • The supervisor at your internship site must provide a signed letter on letterhead confirming your internship as part of the application process, see below for details.

Step 3: Complete Internship Application Online :​ The Fall 2024 Application is closed.

The deadline for completing the application to the internship course is the first week of classes for the semester of the internship.

  • For the summer semester, the deadline is the first day of classes in the first session of classes.
  • Applications must be completed in full, by the deadline, to be reviewed and to receive special permission.

 

INTERNSHIP OFFER LETTER *IMPORTANT*

  • Each student must have a complete offer letter from the organization/supervisor (in PDF format) in order to submit an application to the internship program. complete your online application. This letter MUST include the following in order to be considered for the Communication Department’s internship program.
  • An offer letter from the organization / supervisor (in PDF format)
    • The letter must be on company letterhead, in PDF format (required) that clearly indicates:
      • Company Name
      • Company Address (Physical Address)
      • Company Website
      • Signature by Internship Supervisor (electronic signature is okay)
    • Supervisor’s details must be provided:
      • Name
      • Position
      • E-mail
      • Phone Number
    • The Internship Offer must be clearly described and include all of the following information:
      • Title of the position being offered
      • Description of the offer:
        • The general professional area in which the internship takes place (e.g. Advertising and marketing, Communications management, Social Media, Television production).
        • What work will the intern be involved in and with what responsibility?
          • Requirements:  Clarify expectations, required experience or skills
          • What will the intern learn at your organization?
      • Start Date/End Date
        • Hours per week.
        • Total Hours.
      • Compensation:
        • Paid or Unpaid
        • If Unpaid, does the internship meet the federal regulations for an unpaid internship? Compliance must be indicated in the letter in order for this internship to count for the Comm Dept’s internship program. The application will not be processed without this indication.         • Does the internship offer pay or a stipend for travel or meals.

This course counts as 1-3 credits towards your degree requirements depending on number of hours committed to work on site, see course description.  The number of credit hours is your decision.
